DKV opens a new IT center in Romania. Discover the roles, projects and technologies used.

David Bratiloveanu is the IT manager of the DKV Center in Romania. He offers some insight into the recruitment plans and way of working for the new local office.

What is the activity of DKV and what is the role of the center in Bucharest within the company?
The Web Service Department of DKV is currently migrating from the previous legacy systems to the new Azure Cloud Infrastructure in order to provide customers with new digital products based on the core services.

With this migration all Services and Applications are also being taken over, hence the Web Service Department Teams are working on achieving a smooth transition of the processes.

The DKV IT Center in Bucharest has a vital role for the Web Service Department as it provides new international team members with the required energy and passion to achieving their goals.

What are the projects being worked on in the center of Bucharest?
Several core projects from the DKV Holding in Ratingen are implemented in order to gain velocity. One of these is the enhancement of the Customer Portal with the eMobility functionality, which was welcomed by our customers with positive feedback. Enhancing Features based on Telematic data for drivers and company managers is another example in this direction.

What are the technologies used?
The Web Service Department is making use of the Java/JavaEE and Angular as programming languages, having a Spring Framework, with Docker, CI/CD, Jenkins, Gitlab, Cloud Computing Microservice Architecture, with REST and SOAP Interface technologies. More and more web applications will be developed and maintained on Azure Kubernetes Clusters. Also, Kafka and Event Sourcing are strongly being used as technology and architecture patterns.

We use general available web technologies: our frontends make use of microfrontend patterns and JavaScript in form of Angular.

Beside that we offer our customers and partners RESTful Api’s to our processes and data, these are served by micro services implemented in Java and Spring as a runtime. For data integration and streaming purposes, we make use of Kafka.

All our services run on Azure Cloud, mostly containerized. It's natural to us, to use patterns like CI/CD and therefore use common tool stacks to support this, like Git or Azure DevOps.

DKV is competing in a market where digitalization is growing and gaining speed. This makes us work with new technologies and frameworks every day, learn new things and evolve our stack.

What are the main teams and how are they organized?
The main teams from within the Web Service Department are currently:
- Web Solutions Cockpit Framework
- Web Solutions Toll & eReporting
- Web Solutions Fuel & eMobility
- Web Solutions Platform Drive

Each team has 8-12 members consisting of developers, scrum master / agile coach, test engineer and a solution architect.

From a team perspective the aim is to evolve towards “product driven teams” which handle products throughout their lifetime having a strong customer requirement focus.

Why would an experienced IT specialist choose to join the DKV team?
I believe there are some key reasons to join our teams:
- be part of a major transformation within a dynamic company
- work with state-of-the-art technologies
- the possibility of rapid growth within the team.
- agile and product oriented mindset inside the department
- diversity - you can be responsible for several topics
