CEU Business School: History and Background
CEU Business School was established in 1988 (as IMC-International Management Center) by a group of visionary leaders, including philanthropist George Soros and Hungarian entrepreneur Sándor Demján.
It was the first educational institution in the CEE region to train managers by offering a western graduate business program leading to an American MBA. Since its inception, the School has pursued the goal of developing standards in line with Western institutions, while ensuring timely and relevant consideration of the changes within the region’s transforming economies.
In 2001, the Business School joined Central European University, as an integral part of the institution, but remaining a legally independent, separately registered entity. Its name was officially changed to CEU Business School in September of 2002. Central European University is licensed by The Board of Education of New York State and fully accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. The Central European University offers a large number of postgraduate education Masters and PhD degrees in the fields of Science, Liberal Arts and Law and is part supported by a $500 Million Endowment from its Founders.
A landmark institution in the region, the School plays a pivotal role in linking global management theories with the realities and challenges of the region’s transforming economies.
In addition to its full American accreditation and its strong branding in the CEE region, the CEU Business School is the only Business School in the region enjoying top global rankings. The Executive MBA of the CEU Business School (The International Masters in Management –IMM- Program) has been consistingly ranked in the list of the top 50 Executive MBA Programs in the World by the Financial Times (2005 ranking places it 16th in the World). CEU Business School is also ranked by QS TopMBA International Recruiter Survey in the list of the top 40 business schools in Europe.
